We did the usual Sunday cleaning. Then we headed to the casino. We go the 8x8 electric fry pan. I don't know if I could use it and may ask Katt if she wants it. I was hoping for the crock pot, but that was the one I missed. lol
We did pretty good but didn't stay as long as before. We weren't as lucky today as the last 2 times.
Stopped at Arby's for supper. We hadn't been there in probably over a year. He wanted to go to see if the salt was ...

I made time for only two walks this week, in and around meetings, when it was still warm and sunny. The front came through Saturday night. We had a dusting of snow and the Sunday high was in the mid-30's.
Left: Mr. and Mrs. Crane out for a promenade at Middlefork Forest Preserve on Wednesday afternoon. I was that close to them.
I stopped at Middlefork on my way to Lake Forest Place where the AAUW book group meets. This month we discussed Horse by Geraldine Brooks. I listened to it earlier this year when Diann/Little Penguin recommended ...
read moreThis morning, I needed to be up by 9 am to play the war game. I played but didn't get much in points. I've been backing off that game lately.
We watched some TV and then we shut it off.
I enjoyed listening to my book on tape and getting this done. I was trying to make it light and dark. It turned out pretty good, but not quite what I wanted it to look like. At least this is done. I hope she likes it.
I'm not sure when I will be getting the next one ...
read moreToday, we started with the usual Sunday morning. I got a few things done.
I played for a bit before we headed to the playhouse to see Heckle & Jeckle.
It was a different kind of play. I never read the book or saw the movie. I wasn't that thrilled in the first 10 minutes of the play and wondered how long it would be. It's a musical, so it went on for a while. I enjoyed some of the music, but it wasn't my kind of play. They did an awesome job of acting. The background, though ...

I've had ample opportunities to go downtown to see the Caillebotte exhibit at the Art Institute, but it took a "closing soon!" email to get me to do it on Friday.
Wealthy Chicagoans in the Gilded Age (1890's) bought Impressionists as modern and avant-garde, and relatively inexpensive. They were patrons of the Art Institute and thus the museum developed its Impressionist collection.
"Paris Street, Rainy Day" was acquired in 1964 and has become one of AIC's most famous paintings. Caillebotte painted it in 1877.
I had hoped to go to this famous intersection (Carrefour du Moscou) when ...

Then I enjoyed watching TV while Patrick was golfing. I was able to get a few shows in before he got home.
Then he went outside and worked in the garden. After that, he slept on the swing. He needs his naps during the day. lol
I was able to work on my beading.
I received my Round Robin today. Erin Ferre sent this. I need to think about what I want to add. We can add anything we want. It will take me a bit ...

I love wild "flag" iris!
Gator Party, the June installment of the Running Doe Quilts topalong, is now a flimsy. I used shirtings (most of which I purchased at a rummage sale last weekend) and solids (from my overflowing solids stash . . . I don't purposely purchase them so how is it that I have two big bins full?).
The patches are 5 x 6-1/2 finished. The accent pieces began with 3" squares.
2-7/8 yards.

I've bundled up for two forest preserve walks this week. Fortunately the Kicks (S's car that I drive) stays warm so he is comfortable.
We are at the southern edge of the paper birch range. Hickory nuts. The icy snow sparkles.
All the Christmas decor is put away except for the wreath. Each year I think about going through the storage boxes and culling decorations that I didn't use this year (or last year or the year before....) Then I think what if I want to change things up next season? So I just close up the ...

After a couple of rainy days the sun has come out again so we've enjoyed afternoon outings to the forest preserves: Indepdendence Grove on Thursday and Waukegan Savanna on Friday.
At the guild meeting on Wednesday we heard from the founder and director of The Penny's Purpose, an agency that collects and distributes blankets, comforters, and quilts to anyone in the area. (Kids in crisis, nursing homes, homeless shelters....anyone.) This will be a great way to donate locally.
We also had the reveal for the 2024 round robin! There was so much interest that there were two ...

Natalie Doan of Missouri Star was the guest speaker at the guild meeting Wednesday. I didn't get any good pictures! It was fun to hear her side of the family business.
This is the final month for the guild round robin. I got right to work and added borders to CB's quilt. I can't show you the entire flimsy until next month's reveal, but you can see one of the Tula Pink owls that AK added.
We got the pattern for block ...

Used book sales, destashes, and publishers' warehouse clearance have been the source for most of the many, many quilt books I've acquired. Just as with fabric--if I can't not buy them, then I need to get bargains.
This year I am really and truly paring down all that creative potential. I've gone through a stack, sorting them into "totally unlikely to make anything from this" and "review again just in case." Why is ...

I gave myself a birthday-month treat on Saturday. A guild in the next county had openings for a workshop with Jane Sassaman. (Thank you, Ann, for your encouragement!) My calendar was open and V was available to take care of Stevens.
Jane used her Moths and Moons pattern to teach us her applique technique ...

Our favorite plant/produce shop is open for the season. Susan always comes out to say hi to Stevens. One of her customers made a stack of "hug blankets" to give away to other customers who might need a hug so she presented this one to him.
I got geraniums for the front stoop -- and, hooray -- FIVE healthy rhubarb plants that Susan started from seed. I'll plant them tomorrow.
